Detailed Solution

Pearls were exported from Tiruchirapalli to Rome. Earlier pearls were found randomly in the ocean or sea. Then, pearls were exported to Rome, and the Pandya kingdom was famous for pearls. The pearls were also considered an important source of link between the kingdom and Rome in trade. Pearls are minute crystallines found in water bodies and have a shining tendency. These pearls were used in the making of jewellery. Pearls were also mentioned in the Sangam poem. There were other places also, but the main importer was Rome, and at the time of the Sangam age, the pearl fishing industry flourished.
