Detailed Solution

Traditions of the Vaishnavite faith served as an inspiration for Kangra paintings. After Nadir Shah invaded and conquered Delhi in 1739, Mughal artists fled to the highlands to escape the unpredictability of the plains. The Kangra school of painting was established when they discovered willing buyers there. By the middle of the eighteenth century, miniature painting had been given a new energy by the Kangra artists. Traditions of the Vaishnavite faith served as an inspiration. A lyrical handling of topics and gentle hues like cool blues and greens set Kangra painting apart. Contrary to the miniatures that were maintained in palaces for generations, common women and men painted as well—on pots, walls, floors, and cloth—works of art that infrequently have survived.
