Detailed Solution

Two children Raju and Alok start to walk from points A and B respectively, 42 km apart. Raju walks from A to B at 4 km/hr and Alok walks from B to A at a certain uniform speed. They meet each other after 6 hours. The speed at which Alok walks is 3 km/hr.
Let the speed of Raju and Alok be x and y respectively.
They walk at a distance d which is equal to 42 km.
Now, the time they meet each other:
t= d x+y 6= 42 x+y x+y=7
We know x=4  , therefore,
x+y=7 y=7x y=74 y=3km/hr
So, the speed of Alok is 3 km/hr.
