Detailed Solution

Ans: Option C - 1:4

Equation of heat,

                                            H =V2Rt

For the same voltage, V and time, t ; ratio of heat produced in series HS to heat produced in parallel HP is given by,

                                                      HSHP=V2RStV2RPt=RPRS  ------------ (1)

Now, RS=R+R=2R   -----------(2)

and RP=11R+1R=R2   -----------(3)

Substituting equations (2) and (3) in (1), we get

                                                       HSHP=R22R =14

Therefore, the ratio of heat produced in series and parallel combinations is 1:4.
