Detailed Solution

Given, two dice are thrown together.
The probability of an event to be occurred is the division of the number of favourable outcomes by the total number of outcomes, that is,
Probability of an event =  Number of favourable cases   Total number of cases
Find the total number of possible outcomes.
The total number of ways in which the two dice can be thrown is, 6×6=36   The total number of outcomes is 36.
Find the number of favourable outcomes.
The number of ways the two dice are thrown is, (3, 1), (2, 2), (1, 3), (6, 2), (5, 3), (4, 4), (3, 5), (2, 6) and (6, 6).
So, the number of favourable outcomes are 9.
Find the probability by using the formula,
Probability of an event =  Number of favourable cases   Total number of cases         Probability  = 9 36 = 1 4   Therefore, the required probability is 1 4  .
Hence, the correct option is 4.
