Detailed Solution

 Let the number of children in each family be x.So, total number of children in both families are 2 x.

According to question,112=C3   x·3!C3   2x·3!C3   xC3   2x=112

x(x-1)(x-2)(x-3)!(2x-3)!(x-3)!×(2x)(2x-1)(2x-2)(2x-3)!=112

x·(x-1)·(x-2)(2x)(2x-1)(2x-2)=112

  (x-2)4(2x-1)=1123(x-2)=2x-1x=5
