Two famous dynasties of south india were the cholas and the pandyas.
The Cholas were a Tamil maritime kingdom that ruled over southern India and Southeast Asia. From 300 BCE to 1279 CE, they ruled. Together with the Cheras and the Pandyas, they were three crowned kings. The Kaveri was the most productive river they employed for trade and economic growth, which helped them build their kingdom to its highest point. Beyond the seas, they ruled over Sri Lanka and the Maldives. This kingdom was established by Vijayalaya Chola (848–891 AD). The most well-known king, Aditya I, subjugated the Pallavas and built 108 Shiva temples. The Pandyas were among the great ancient Tamilkam kingdoms, along with the Cholas and Cheras. The Sangam manuscripts, which are ancient Tamil poetry, have their names.
