Detailed Solution

Given that

F1 =2P

F2 =P

Then the direction of resultant R is αin anticlockwise direction.

Then  tanα=Psinθ2P+Pcosθ(1)

Now F1 is doubled i.e. F1|=4P , F2 is increased by 12

i.e. F2|=F2+12 now

also resultant R| is making same angle α with x – axis anticlockwise

direction.

tanα=(P+12)sinθ4P+(P+12)cosθ(2)

We can have

Psinθ2P+Pcosθ=(P+12)sinθ4P+(P+12)cosθ

4P2+P2cosθ+12Pcosθ

2P2+P2cosθ+24P+12Pcosθ

2P2 = 24P P=12 N
