1)      The Parliament consists of two houses, i.e., the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. The Lok Sabha (House of the People), also known as the lower house of Parliament, is elected every five years through direct elections and has 543 members. The party, with the majority of parliament members in Lok sabha, forms and runs the government for five years.
2)      The Rajya Sabha, or the upper house, is elected every six years by the members of the legislative assembly of a particular state. It houses 245 members. Its 233 members are elected, and the president of India nominates 12 members.
