Two jewels of Kannada literature are Pampa and Ponna. These are the two archaic artists having a place with the Jain people group. Jain time of writing was called Augustan period of Kannada writing as there were in excess of 200 artists. Kannada is the main language wherein Ramayana and Mahabharata exist in Jain adaptation.
Pampa was well known for his works Vikramarjuna Vijayam which was Mahabharata in the Jain rendition with Arjuna as a legend. He additionally composed Adipurana. For his huge commitments to writing, he was called Adi Kavi.
Contemporary of Pampa was Sri Ponna, the court artist of Rashtrakutha lord Krishna III. He got titles like Kavi Chakravarthy and Ubhaya Chakravarthy. His well known works were Shanty Puranam, Jinaksharamale and so on.
