Two major centres of Kushanas were Peshawar and Mathura. The Kushana dynasty dated from the 1st century -3rd-century. The most famous Kushana ruler was Kanishka. His capitals were Peshawar and Mathura. Kanishka was a great patron of Mahayana Buddhism. The Kushana ruler who organised the Buddhist council was Kanishka. This empire had great wealth owing to its trade and mostly because being situated on the silk roads gave it advantages as being a middle man brought profits. This kingdom saw its height in the reign of ruler Kanishka.
