We know that a rational number is in the form of

Let us define the numerator and denominator as the numbers are in ratio 1:3.
Assume the numbers are x and 3x.
The rational number becomes

When 5 is added to both the numbers, the ratio becomes

So, the new rational number becomes

x + 5 3 x + 5

.
Compare the above obtained rational number with

⇒ 2 x + 10 = 3 x + 5
