Detailed Solution

Given, m1=1 kg, m2=2 kg,

Before the collision,

u1=2 m/su2=4 m/s

After the collision,

v1=3 m/sv2=?

From the law of conservation of momentum, the momentum before the action is equal to the momentum after the action.

m1u1+m2u2=m1v1+m2v2

By substituting the values, we get

1×2+2×4=1×3+2×v2
10=3+2v2
2v2=7
v2=3.5 m/s

Hence, the velocity is 3.5 m/s.
