Detailed Solution

Two people manage to push a motorcar of mass 1200 kg at a uniform velocity along a level road. The same motorcar can be pushed by three people to produce an acceleration of 0.2 m/s2.
The force with which each person is pushing assuming that all of them push the motorcar with the same muscular effort is 80 N.
Given, mass of the motorcar, = 1200 kg, acceleration, a = 0.2 m/s2
From Newton’s second law of motion,
F=ma
 F=1200×0.2
 F=240 N
This means the net force acting on the car is 240 N when 3 people are pushing the car. And we know that the net force acting on the car when 2 people are pushing it was 0 N since it was moving with a uniform velocity. This means that the force applied by third person is 240 N.
∴ each person push the motorcar with 240/3 = 80N force.
