Two rods of the same weight and equal length have different thicknesses. They are held vertically on the surface of the sand, Among those two rods, rod B will sink more.
It is known that the pressure exerted by a body is inversely proportional to the surface area. In the case of Rod A, it has a greater surface area, and hence it will exert less pressure. Similarly, in the case of Rod B, it has a lesser surface area and hence would exert greater pressure. Since Rod B exerts greater pressure, it will be sinking more as compared to Rod A.
