Detailed Solution

Length of each train,

IA=IB=400m

Initial velocities of both trains,

uA=uB=72km/h

=72×518m/s1km/h=518m/s

Distance travelled by train in 50 s

sA = uA ×t

(As for unaccelerated motion distance = Speed × Time)

sA=20×50=1000m

Distance travelled by train in 50 s,

sB= uB+1/2 aB t2

(As motion of train is an accelerated motion)

sB=20×50+12×1×502

=1000 + 1250 = 2250 m

Original distance between the two trains =sB-sA

=2250-1000=1250m
