Speed of faster train = x m/s

Speed of slower train = y m/s

When they are travelling in same direction $\frac{100 + 80}{x - y} = 18$

$180 = 18 (x - y)$

$x - y = 10$

When they are travelling in opposite direction $\frac{100 + 80}{x + y} = 9 x + y = 20$

$\begin{array}{l} x + y = 20 \\ x - y = 20 \\ \bar{2 x = 30} \end{array}$

$x = 15 & y = 5$
