Let Distance and Speed of first train be D 1 and S 1

and of second be D 2 and S 2 respectively

According to question,

S 1 = 40 \frac{km}{h} and S 2 = 45 \frac{km}{h}

D 1 + 40 km = D 2

Time taken by first train = Time taken by second train

\frac{D 1}{S 1} = \frac{D 2}{S 2}

\frac{D 1}{40} = \frac{D 1 + 40}{45}

45 D 1 = 40 D 1 + 1600

5 D 1 = 1600

D 1 = 320 km

⇨

D 2 = 320 + 40 = 360 km

Therefore, Distance between two stations = D 1 + D 2 = 320 + 360 = 680 km
