When two wires of the same length made of two materials of resistivity ρ1 and ρ2 are connected in series to a source of potential V, then the equivalent resistivity for the combination is 2ρ1ρ2ρ1+ρ2.
Equivalent resistance in parallel combination is given by
1Rp= 1R1+1R2         (i)
Also, from the formula of resistance, the resistances R1 and R2 can be given as
R1=ρ1lA and R2=ρ2lA
Substituting value in (i), we get
Rp=ρ1ρ2lA2ρ1+ρ2lA= ρl2A
ρ= 2ρ1ρ2ρ1+ρ2
Hence, the equivalent resistivity for the combination is 2ρ1ρ2ρ1+ρ2.
