These are used to detect flaws in solid structures instead of the sounds within the normal audible range because they have high frequencies and lower wavelengths. When the ultrasound waves are introduced into the metals, the waves are reflected back from the defected portion if there is any defect in the metal; hence, the fault's location is detected.
