Detailed Solution

Under Article 356 of the Constitution of India, in the event that a state government is unable to function according to constitutional provisions, the Central government can take direct control of the state machinery.
As India is an example of ‘holding together’ federation, the Central government has more powers in comparison to the state governments. This is quite clear from the several provisions of the Constitution- one of which is Article 356 which talks about imposing the President's rule in any state. This article allows the Central government to take control of the state through the President in case it believes that any state government has been unable to rule properly.
