Detailed Solution

Under the green revolution, Wheat and Rice were given priority.  The main aim of independent India was to attain self-sufficiency in food grain production. The government adopted numerous strategies to meet this goal but the implementation of a new strategy that introduced the usage of HYV seeds, chemical fertilizers and pesticides, mechanized tools and modernized farming methods led to the Green Revolution in the 1960s. The use of these new inputs was initially used on wheat and then rice. Indira Gandhi released the special stamp called Wheat Revolution in 1968 upon the success of the production of wheat using methods that introduced this new strategy. Upon the success of the wheat revolution, the same procedure of farming was applied to rice.
