Detailed Solution

Until 1944, France was the only Western country that did not grant women the right to vote.
Women were active participants in the events that brought about many significant changes in French society. They anticipated their participation would pressure the revolutionary leadership to implement measures to improve their circumstances. Women formed their political clubs and journals to discuss and express their concerns. Approximately sixty women's clubs sprang up in various French cities. Until 1944, France was the only Western country that did not grant women the right to vote. Charles de Gaulle's regime gave women this freedom. On October 27, 1946, women's suffrage was officially incorporated into the French Constitution. It said that "all women have rights equal to those of men in all fields" under French law.
