Primordial germ cells form in epiblast of bilaminar gastrula, migrate to yolk sac and from there settle in gonads. The PGC undergo repeated mitotic divisions to form spermatogonia or oogonia. The spermatogonia form primary spermatocyte in males, in females oogonia form primary oocytes. Primary spermatocytes and primary oocytes undergo meiotic divisions. The last step is differentiation and maturation of sex cells.
