Detailed Solution

Vasco da Gama came from Portugal.
Many European countries like- England, France, and Portugal, sanctioned explorers in a desire to find new land and resources. Vasco da Gama, a Portuguese sailor, embarked on a journey to explore sea routes to the Indian subcontinent with a desire to obtain spices. In the voyage, da Gama lost two of his four ships, and only 54 men out of 170 survived by the journey's end. In 1498, after sailing for more than a year, he reached Calicut, India. The newly found routes proved immensely profitable, so the English, Dutch, and French sailors followed da Gama.
