Detailed Solution

Vijalaya built the famous temple for Goddess Nishumbhasudini at Thanjavur. They were subservient to Kanchipuram's Pallava kings. In the middle of the ninth century, Vijayalaya, a member of the ancient chiefly family of the Cholas from Uraiyur, captured the delta from the Mutharaiyar. He founded Thanjavur and erected a temple to the goddess Nishumbhasudini there. Vijayalaya's successors conquered neighbouring regions, and the kingdom grew in size and power. This kingdom incorporated the Pandyan and Pallava territories to the south and north.
