Detailed Solution

  • Water bloom or algal bloom is the phenomenon in which there is a rapid increase in the algal girth in the water body due to which the color of the water changes.
  • Thai rapid growth is promoted by cyanobacteria which is also known as blue-green algae.
  • The increase in the amount of algae in the water bodies can decrease the oxygen concentration in the water.
  •  This happens because the algal growth takes up the oxygen dissolved in water.
  • As a result of this the plants and animals that live in the water bodies do not get enough oxygen to survive.
  • Hence the correct option is B.
