Detailed Solution

Given flow rate through a pipe of diameter 14cm is 5kmph.
Volume of the cylinder =π r 2 h
Assume that the level of water in the tank will rise by 7 cm in x   hours.
Thus, its length in x hours is,
5x 5000x meters
Water column forms a cylinder whose radius is,
r= 14 2 cm r= 7 100 m
Volume of water flowing through the cylindrical pipe in x   hrs,
π r 2 h 22 7 × 7 100 2 ×5000x 77x m 3
Volume of water that falls into tank,
50×40× 7 100 m 3 154 m 3
Now,
Volume of water flowing through the cylindrical pipe in x hrs = Volume of water that falls in a tank in x hrs.
77x=154 x= 154 77 x=2hrs
Thus, the time in which the level of water in the tank will rise by 7 cm is 2 hours.
Therefore, option (4) is correct.
