Detailed Solution

Water was supplied to the city of Thanjavur through wells and tanks.
In Thanjavur, the capital of the Cholas, one thousand years ago, the perennial river Kaveri flowing near the town made the town more beautiful. The ringing bells of the Rajarajeshvara temple constructed by King Rajaraja Chola were admirable. On the temple, a wall was the architect's name, Kunjaramallan Rajaraja Perunthachchan. Inside the temple was a large Shiva linga. Besides the temple, there are palaces with mandapas or pavilions, where the kings held court for issuing orders to their subordinates. Military barracks were also present. The town had markets where people could buy clothes, jewellery, foodstuffs, and spices. Wells and storage tanks supplied the settlement with water. The flag cloth employed in the temple festival, fine cotton for the royalty, and coarse cotton for the folk were manufactured by Saliya weavers of Thanjavur and Uraiyur.
