Detailed Solution

Western slopes of the Western Ghats are covered with thick forests but not the Eastern slopes. And it has been noticed that the monsoon winds of the southwest monsoon first hit the western slopes of the Western Ghats, which results in heavy rainfall. Many mountains are present in the Western Ghats, which trap clouds, which cause rain and cause heavy rainfall there. When rain causes clouds to enter the eastern ghats, a major amount of humidity is lost, which results in less rainfall. And in addition to this, eastern ghats have fewer high mountains, which fails to trap the rain-causing clouds.
