What are anomers?

Cyclic hemiacetyl forms of sugars which differ in their configuration at C₁ of aldoses or C₂ of ketoses are known as anomers.
Ex: $\mathrm{\alpha }$ -D-glucose and $\mathrm{\beta }$ -D-Glucose
