Historical works of the Ahoms are Buranjis. The historical writings by Ahoms were known as Buranjis. From 1228 to 1826, the Assam region and the lands around it were under the control of the Ahom kingdom. The Buranjis, composed by the Ahoms and then completed by their successors, were regarded as one of their most important historical works or a chronicle in the Assamese language. They are believed to be the mixed offspring of the indigenous Assamese people who eventually joined the Tai people who arrived in Assam through the Brahmaputra Valley around 1228. Sukaphaa, the Tai group's leader, and his 9,000 adherents founded the vast dynasty known as the Ahom kingdom.
