Dipavamsa, Ashokavadana, and Mahavamsa are all books that give great knowledge about history. The Ashokavadana was an Indian Sanskrit-language text. It relates to the birth and reign of the Maurya Emperor Ashoka. Both legends and historical narratives are included in it. And it also glorifies Ashoka as a Buddhist emperor who wished to spread Buddhism to all parts of the world. Other books are  Dipavamsa which means the chronicle of the island and Mahavamsa, the great chronicle. These books are developed as a result of the spread of Buddhism to new regions like Sri Lanka.
