What are platelets also known as?

Platelets are small blood cells, also known as thrombocytes. They are involved in the blood clotting process to stop the bleeding during an injury or trauma. 

Platelets are produced by megakaryocytes (precursor cells) in the bone marrow of long bones like hip and thigh bones.
