Detailed Solution

The three types of vacuoles are food vacuoles, contractile vacuoles, and central vacuoles. Vacuoles are membrane-bound sacs inside cells used for storage and other functions. Food vacuoles store and digest nutrients taken into the cell. Contractile vacuoles help remove excess water from cells, especially in freshwater protists, maintaining osmotic balance.

Central vacuoles are large vacuoles found mostly in plant cells; they store water, nutrients, and waste, and help maintain cell rigidity by exerting pressure on the cell wall. Each vacuole type plays an important role in keeping the cell healthy and functional by managing storage, digestion, and water balance.
