Detailed Solution
The modern periodic table is made up of seven horizontal rows called periods that are organised from top to bottom and 18 vertical columns known as groups that are arranged from left to right. The elements are listed in this periodic table in increasing order of atomic number.
Based on their valence shell electrons—defined as electrons that are still empty in the outermost electron shell—this table categorises the elements into s, p, d, and f-block elements.
Group 3-12 are known as transition elements and are also referred to as d-group elements, while group 18 is made up of inert gases or noble gases, which are elements with a fully filled outermost atomic shell and high stability. Group 1, 2, 13–17 are known as main group elements in which the last electron will enter in the s or p subshell. Instead of this, the final electron will enter the f-subshell in one of the two rows of items below the table known as the inner transition elements.
There are elements that are known by the name chalcogens and this group is also known by the name oxygen family since the first element of this group is oxygen.
Hence option (C) is correct.
