●        Coins, architecture and history are some of the most important sources that provide information about the Delhi Sultans.
●        Monuments: Various monuments were built by the Sultans of Delhi that reveal not only the cultural traditions of that time but also the living conditions, beliefs, faiths and socio-cultural outlook of the rulers. For example Domes, minarets, arches, and popped roofs show architectural features of Turkish art under Delhi Sultanate.
●        Tawarikh: The most valuable source of information about the Sultanate are Tawarikh or “histories”.Tawarikh were histories written in praise of the Sultans in Persian, by experienced men, who often occupied important posts in the administration.
●        Inscriptions: The inscriptions found on coins, monuments, milestones and tombstones are also valuable supplements and sources of information on the Delhi Sultanate. Some of the inscriptions are in Sanskrit, some in Arabic and some in both languages. For example, the first coin issued by Muhammad Bakhtiyar Khilji has both Arabic and Sanskrit inscriptions which indicate the Persian language was also used at that time to communicate.
