Detailed Solution

Southwest Monsoon winds bring rainfall over the mainland of India.
The monsoon in India, starting from June and extending up to September, is termed the southwest monsoon. A low-pressure region is created in North India during summer attracting winds from the high-pressure regions of the Indian Ocean. These winds are moisture-bearing and cause rainfall in the Indian subcontinent. They are referred to as monsoons. The monsoons are not evenly distributed throughout India. The western regions receive significant rainfall as the Western Ghats act as a barrier, while the rain shadow region receives less rainfall. As the wind proceeds to central and north India, there is a decrease in the moisture content, resulting in less rainfall over these regions compared to the southwest.
