What can happen when heat is added to some substance?

Two circumstances occur when heat is added to any substance as heat release kinetic energy and, when the molecules come in touch with the heat, then the molecules start moving and there will be more space occur between the molecules of the substance. For example, if we mix color in heated water, it will blend with water very soon because of the motion of molecules in the water due to heat.
