Detailed Solution

Rainfall is caused by western cyclonic disturbances in the northwestern part of India during the winter. Westerlies are driving this pattern. As winter approaches, temperatures have dropped throughout the country due to the appearance of northwesterly breezes known as Western Disturbances. A western disturbance is an extratropical storm that forms in the Mediterranean region. When these storms hit the Himalayan natural barrier, moisture is sometimes shed in the form of rain on the North Western Indian subcontinent.
