What colour does the sun appear at noon and why?

When the sun is overhead in the sky at noon, the light it emits travels a relatively shorter distance through the atmosphere before reaching the earth. The blue light is not much scattered in this case. The overhead sun seems white to us at noon because its light contains nearly all its component colours in the right proportion.
