Top leaders of numerous parties fight and contest elections, organise meetings and rallies, make promises etc., in order to gain power and hold authority. In a multi-party system, this competition is more rugged and vivid. Opposition parties are those political parties which are not in power and work as a critic of the government, which is made by the party in power or the majority. It makes politics and elections a competition. Moreover, they act as checkers of the government so that they do not form policies which are against the welfare of the people or just morally and socially wrong.
