Detailed Solution

Concept- Oersted made the connection between magnetism and electricity. In his experiment, he discovered that a magnetic compass produces a magnetic field around it that causes the compass needle to deflect when it is positioned close to a current-carrying wire.
A magnetic compass is put next to a wire that is conducting current in accordance with Oersted's experiment, as demonstrated in the circuit below.
Question ImageThe wire's moving electrons create a magnetic field around it when current runs through the circuit. As seen in the above illustration, the magnetic compass causes the needle's north to be diverted. The right hand rule can be used to determine which way the compass needle points toward north. The fingers will curl around the wire and point in the direction of the magnetic field produced by the wire if the right hand is wrapped around the wire with the thumb pointing in the direction of the wire's current.
The magnetic field lines created by the wire carrying the current are parallel to the wire's plane. The direction of the magnetic field is likewise reversed and the needle of the magnetic compass deflects in the opposite direction from that in the first scenario if the direction of the current in the wire is reversed by inverting the battery's positive and negative terminals.
Hence, the correct option is 3 - Placed a compass near a current carrying wire and observed the deflection of the compass needle.
