Detailed Solution

The athletes clenched their first uprasie to gain international attention for the Civil rights movement.
In 1968 Olympics were held in Mexican City. Two athletes, Tommie Smith and John Carlos, won gold and silver medals in the 200 metres race. They were African-American. They wore black socks and no shoes to review their award. This was done to symbolise black poverty. They also wore black gloves and clenched their fights when America's national anthem was played. They also lowered their heads to represent black power. Along with them, Peter Norman was an Australian athlete who wore a human rights badge to demonstrate his support.
