Detailed Solution

When we say that a constituency is reserved for the Scheduled Castes (SC), only SC candidates can contest the election. Our country has historically witnessed injustice against the lower rungs of society due to the prevalence of the caste system. To undo these injustices, the Constitution of India made arrangements to allow adequate representation for Dalits. They were categorised as Scheduled Castes. A certain percentage of state and national elections seats were reserved for the Scheduled Castes members. Only the people of these castes can contest elections from these seats. This would ensure that a sizable number of representatives of Dalits is a part of the decision-making.
