What do you mean by deforestation?

Deforestation is the large-scale cutting or permanent removal of trees/forests from an area, usually to use the land for farming, cities, roads, mining, or industries.

Effects (any three–four):

• Loss of biodiversity—plants and animals lose their homes.
• Soil erosion and loss of fertility—roots that hold soil are gone.
• Disturbed water cycle—less rainfall; more floods and droughts.
• Climate change—less CO₂ absorption, more global warming.
