It was the name of the commercial center under Chola's control.
The traders and merchants of Nagaram established their associations and organisations. For the most part, the Nagaram served as the Nadus' marketplaces. Nagaram were around not just when the Cholas were in power, but also under the Pallavas. Nagarams was a town where all commercial activity was conducted through a corporate body known as nagarams in the middle of the period between the eighth and ninth centuries. To know the medieval structure and social formation, various research has been done by many scholars. As nagarams used the same form as any other agricultural community, there wasn't much of a distinction between them.
