Adivasis actually mean Tribals.
The term Adivasis is used to refer to the tribal communities in the country. A small percentage of Adivasis reside in the important industrial and mining areas of India. Adivasis are believed to practice religions like Christianity, Hinduism and Islam, they are said to be residing in the states like West Bengal, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha, etc. Adivasis have their own language and culture. The Adivasis population is stereotyped and prejudiced by the mainstream upper classes in many ways like making fun of their language, dress and culture, they are seen as outsiders and are denied access to mainstream society.
