Detailed Solution

The  Tamil word Muvendar means three chiefs. Cholas, Cheras, and Pandyas were the most important ruling dynasties of those times. Three chiefs were the head of these families; they were referred to as Muvendar. They became popular in South India about 2300 years ago. They became rich and powerful by controlling the coast and river valleys as the southern part of the country was largely covered with the coastline. These chiefs did not collect taxes directly. The word Muvendar was included in the Sangam poems. Each of the three kings had two main centers to control. One will be inland and the other will be on the coast.
