Detailed Solution

The term ‘Old Regime’ is usually used to describe the society of France before the French revolution.
Before the French revolution, French society was divided into three estates. This system of estates was called the “Old Regime”. 1st estate comprises clergy- a Group of persons assigned special functions in the church. And the 2nd estate includes nobility. They both enjoyed privilege by birth. The first two estates enjoyed privilege by birth and were exempted from paying taxes to the state. The last estate was called the 3rd estate working people, including peasants, artisans, merchants, court officials, etc. The peasants and artisans were imposed direct and indirect taxes by the church. The nobles enjoyed one more right called feudal privilege, which included the extraction of feudal dues from peasants.
